|On 8-9 October 2008 the Palace of the Republic hosted 11th Economic Forum "Moldova and CEI Region: bridging East and West", organized by CEI (Central European Initiative), Ministry of Economy and Trade, MIEPO (Moldavian Investment and Export Promotion Organization) in cooperation with the National Institute for Foreign Trade ( ICE) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Co-sponsors are Eximbank Gruppo Veneto Banca and Mobiasbanca Groupe Societe Generale.
The multilateral program of the forum provided the opportunity to discuss during formal sessions a series of economic problems such as transporting infrastructure, investment climate, competitiveness and business environment, industrial development and agriculture, etc.
The panel "Focus on Financial Institutions" dedicated to the impact of the crisis on the financial institutions was attended by the General Director of JCSB "Eximbank" Gruppo Veneto Banca – Mr. Marcel Chirca, who has noted the important role of the National Bank of Moldova in reducing the negative effect upon banking system of country.
Simultaneously with opening of the formal sessions the "Desk of Italy" was opened, which touched upon such topics as the further expansion of the cooperation and investment possibilities for the Italian companies in Moldova. During the meeting, Representative of Veneto Banca Holding in Eximbank- Mr. Nicola Damiani, made a presentation about the Bank, in which he highly valued the results of activity from the moment of becoming a member of the Italian banking group Veneto Banca, and also emphasized a high level of activity of the Italian businessmen conducting business in the country.
This summit has shown high interest in further expansion of the cooperation between Moldova and the countries of south-east Europe, thanks to creation by the state of the attractive investment climate and successes in macroeconomic stabilization of national economy of Republic Moldova.
