On 15-18 of May 2007 the annual Western Union Agent Conference for Europe, Middle East, Africa and South Asia (EMEASA) was held in Istanbul, Turkey. On behalf of Eximbank the annual meeting was attended by Mr. Veaceslav Burcovschii, Vice-President and Mr. Adrian Balmus, Head of the International Payments Department.
During the conference special attention was paid to recognition of the success Western Union enjoyed in 2006 and service development directions it will take in 2007 and beyond. In particular, Mr. Hikmet Ersek, Senior Vice President of Europe, Middle East, Africa and South Asia Western Union Financial Service, pointed out that “to reach out the excellent results can only be done by introducing innovative products and tailor-made services, in view of migration in regions, along with constantly adapting to change and new possibilities".
The market potential for Western Union in Moldova is confirmed by the fact, that the volume of money transfers of individuals through commercial banks only for first three months of 2007 exceeded by 40, 3 % the amount for the similar period of 2006, according to the National Bank of Moldova.
